Parashat Vayechi: A Last Request | Rabbi Shai Finkelstein
30.12.25
The Book of Genesis ends with Joseph’s final request: that his bones be taken to be buried in the Land of Israel. Why did Joseph tie his burial to the redemption from Egypt? Why did he not make his own sons, Menashe and Ephraim, swear to fulfill his request, but instead bound all the other tribes to this mission? Why is this the final story in the Book of Genesis?
