Judah’s heartbreaking speech describes the plight of their aged father and the possible consequences of Binyamin not returning. When Joseph reveals himself, he immediately declares “I am Joseph” and then asks, “Is my father still alive?” This question is baffling since Judah’s entire speech is centered on their father’s fate.
