מדברות
עוד מימי המקרא נאלץ
עם ישראל לארוז את
מיטלטליו שוב ושוב ולנוע
על פני תבל, לעתים במנוסה
דחופה מפני מלתעותיה
של שנאה יוקדת. מזוודה זו
מסמלת מצד אחד את אלפי
שנות הנדודים, ומצד שני את
סיומם עם הקמתו של בית
קבע, הבית הלאומי.
Even back in biblical times,
the Jews were forced to
pack up their belongings
again and again and to
wander the face of the
earth—often in urgent
flight from the fangs of
burning hatred. This suitcase
symbolizes the thousands
of years of wandering; but
it also represents their end
and the establishment of
a permanent home—the
National Home.
