מדברות
"אם נפל אדם ומת, לא היו
שמים את לבם אליו, ואם
נפלה לבנה, היו יושבים
ובוכים" – כך אומר המדרש
על בוני מגדל בבל.
סוכה-מגדל זו שואפת
לשמים, אך אינה פתוחה לבני
אדם. האם אנו עסוקים יתר
על המידה בעליונים ושוכחים
בתוך כך את אנושיותנו?
“If a man fell and died, they
didn’t pay any attention;
but if a brick fell, they would
sit down and weep.”Thus
the Midrash describes the
builders of the Tower of
Babel. This sukkah-tower
aspires to reach the sky but
isn’t open to human beings.
Are we so busy dealing with
lofty matters that we forget
our humanity along the way?
