1. Elijah the Zealot and Elijah the Penitent: A Biblical and Rabbinic Portrayal

Is Elijah a gentle prophet who brings messages of redemption, or a harsh firebrand, uncompromising in his staunch commitment to God? We will examine the biblical portrayal of Elijah and his radical transformation in rabbinic texts.

This series explores several biblical stories and prophecies in preparation for the High Holy Days and Sukkot. We will encounter Elijah and Moses as they struggle with divine justice and mercy in their role as God's prophets. We will also examine the haftarot readings for Sukkot that describe the earthquake, divine judgment, and the ideal end of days.
