This episode explores how Jerusalem was transformed under early Islamic rule, focusing on the Temple Mount as a space of both continuity and radical change. Through the Dome of the Rock and the enigmatic Dome of the Chain, we trace how the Umayyad rulers reshaped the city’s architecture, sacred geography, and skyline without erasing its past. Drawing on archaeology, historical maps, and medieval sources, the film shows how abandoned Byzantine spaces were filled with new meaning. Jerusalem emerges here not as a city destroyed and rebuilt, but as one slowly reconfigured—stone by stone—into Muslim al-Quds, where older histories were absorbed, reused, and reinterpreted.
