Despair, Hope and the Sources of Judaism

Prof. Yossi Turner

This series offers an exploration of how Jewish tradition navigates the darkest corridors of the human experience. By drawing on a variety of texts – from ancient Midrash and the Book of Job to modern Zionist thought and post-Holocaust philosophy – this series aims to confront the contemporary loss of hope through the lens of historical wisdom. The underlying premise is that true resilience is a form of “looking beyond” the present crisis; by engaging with how past generations grappled with destruction and exile, we can cultivate the “wisdom of the future” necessary to navigate our present situation and rediscover a path toward renewed hope.
