We will explore Jewish life in Hungary up to the 15th-century, where limited sources—

tombstones, decrees, and scattered references—leave Jews as shadowy figures reacting to shifting conditions. We will examine royal relationships with Jews, including two who served as financial officers, and visit Castle Hill in Budapest, site of the earliest known Jewish settlement, as well as Sopron, home to two preserved 14th-century synagogues.
