The book “One Day in October” is a collection of stories of forty heroes of October 7 and what they went through on that dreadful day. In this discussion, Oriya Mevorach, the author of the book, will speak with Professor Yemima Ben-Menahem, whose grandson Aner Shapiro lost his life on October 7. Unarmed, Aner stood at the entrance to a road shelter, protecting the 27 people who were crowded behind him on the floor, seeking refuge from bombs and missiles. When Hamas terrorists started hurling grenades into the shelter, Aner managed to toss back eight of them before he was killed by the last. Through commemorating Aner's heartbreaking story, Mevorach and Ben-Menahem will try to understand what drives a young person to act as Aner chose to and what is the meaning of heroism today.
