Hard Times: Jews in Times of Crisis in America

Prof. Eli Lederhendler

The series will explore how Jews in past eras in American history coped with national and international crises. The historical path of American Jewry, although often celebrated for how much Jews have achieved, was never strewn with roses. We will touch on three key themes: America’s wars, from the Civil War to World War II; critical issues in US foreign policy and immigration policy; and domestic problems that surfaced in political and economic crises.
