The Psalm, which opens with the cry “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me” is often cited in the New Testament, including in some gospels describing the last words of Jesus as he was crucified. Yet in some Jewish traditions it is associated with the festival of Purim. How can the same psalm be interpreted in such different ways?
