Singing in the Dark: Lullabies and Memories

Millions of Yiddish-speaking children fell asleep to the sound of their mother’s voice – singing of raisins and almonds, of little white goats, of Torah and poverty and distant dreams. Yiddish lullabies were more than bedtime songs; they were the intimate space where language, memory, and identity were passed from one generation to the next. This lecture explores the most intimate form of cultural transmission and its transgenerational features.
